Taiwanese Coral Reef Society Signs Cooperation Agreement with the Japanese Coral Reef Society

Dear Members of the Taiwanese Coral Reef Society, on November 30, 2024, the Taiwanese Coral Reef Society (TCRS) officially signed a cooperation agreement with the Japanese Coral Reef Society (JCRS), marking a joint commitment to advancing coral reef conservation and academic exchange.

As global environmental changes intensify, the challenges facing coral reef ecosystems have increasingly transcended national boundaries. Recognizing this, Taiwan and Japan—two regions profoundly influenced by the Kuroshio Current—have come together through this academic partnership to promote information sharing, research collaboration, and personnel exchange. This alliance aims to enhance the effectiveness of coral reef conservation and restoration efforts, and to confront the ecological challenges that lie ahead.

Local researchers and diving communities enthusiastically joined the effort, conducting reef assessments in Taiwan’s coastal waters. Annual surveys have since been carried out to track reef conditions, providing critical data for coral conservation and the establishment of marine protected areas.
