The First International Coral Reef Forum

 

The First International Coral Reef Forum will be held from November 23 to 25, 2016, in Sanya, Hainan Province, China.

This event is jointly organized by the China Pacific Coral Reef Sub-Association (Preparatory Committee) and the Hainan South China Sea Institute of Tropical Marine Biology and Diseases. Through the establishment and continuous development of the forum, it aims to become one of the internationally recognized think tanks in the field of coral reef research and conservation.

 

The forum will focus on the following five main themes:

 

  1. Coral Biology (taxonomy, development, diseases, etc.)

  2. Coral Reef Ecological Restoration and Island Protection

  3. Coral Reef Ecosystem Monitoring and Assessment

  4. Coral Reef Spatial Planning and Industrialization (including tourism and traditional fisheries)

  5. Coral Reef Science Communication and Education (including public outreach, diving, and aquariums)

 

During the forum, several academicians from the Chinese Academy of Engineering and internationally renowned coral reef experts will deliver keynote presentations. Experts from around the world will engage in in-depth discussions on the five main topics and work toward building global consensus and collaboration on coral reef conservation.

 

The forum is co-organized by the Sanya Municipal Bureau of Ocean and Fisheries and the Sanya National Coral Reef Nature Reserve.

The Forum Chair is Dr. Chen Hong, Director of the Hainan South China Sea Institute of Tropical Marine Biology and Diseases.
